Some things are just easier to explain when you can show how they work. That’s why Rexroth presented it´s IndraMotion for Packaging automation solution for the first time live, using three machines from different manufactures at the interpack.
High output, format changes without time losses, simple startup, and the flexibility to face any challenge – the basic demands placed on packaging machines don’t change. Advanced automation solutions make it possible to accelerate and simplify the engineering process, tap potential, and achieve optimizations that give manufacturers and operators a true competitive advantage.

Modular concept for perfect adaption to customer needs
With the new Innopouch K-Series, the company KHS is at the cutting edge of stand-up pouches for packaging a wide range of different products. The forming, filling, and sealing machine features a modular design, very short changeover times, and fast startup – all made possible by Rexroth’s IndraMotion for Packaging automation solution.

The IndraMotion MLC controls the machines’ up to 25 axes and ensures short cycle times and even faster format changes. The machine’s modular design enables the addition and removal of a wide spectrum of different fill heads. The decentralized IndraDrive Mi drive system combines drive and servomotor – not only reducing wiring by 30%, but also enabling the simple incorporation of new modules. The result: the machine can be perfectly adapted to End Users’ individual needs.

The Rexroth CL03 valve terminal system also makes a decisive contribution. It is directly integrated into the machine and can accommodate additional modules with flexibility. High-pressure cleaning and high temperatures are no problem thanks to protection class IP69K. A positive side effect: the use of Rexroth pneumatics also means decreased acoustic levels.

Format changeovers at the push of a button for more flexibility

The linear FLK7001 filling machine from Bosch Packaging Technology, which also enables flow metering (FLD), fills goods for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and liquid food industries where changing products and formats are part of day-to-day life.
A compact filling system combined with the latest servo technology from Rexroth ensures optimum filling processes for any product or bottle shape. Rexroth accelerates changeover to new products or formats using the latest generation of electric cams: the FlexProfile software function. After parameter change of an axis it automatically adapts parameters of further dependent axes. A push of a button on the operating terminal is all it takes to automatically set the machine for the new product.

Rexroth’s flexible VarioFlow chain conveyor system is responsible for conveying products to the next machine and offers fast, easy assembly.

One control platform for a wide range of different machines

Grasping products quickly and without interrupting the product flow – that is what Cama’s robot systems do with exceptional precision and at high speeds. The “Triaflex” delta robot can achieve speeds of up to 120 cycles per minute. When coupled with an intelligent system for visual identification, the robot can work three-dimensionally, take any product from the conveyer belt, and correctly position them in a package. At the interpack, Rexroth will be demonstrating a Cama “Triaflex” robot that is able to grasp up to 240 products per minute thanks to simultaneously grabbing of several products. Rexroth’s IndraMotion MLC supplies the required performance and accuracy. It unites PLC, Motion Control, and Robotics on one platform, synchronizing and controlling the robotic arms as well as the complete robot cell.
The automation solution IndraMotion for Packaging is so versatile that Cama doesn’t use the control and drive technology for the automation of its robotic systems, but instead realizes its complete machine portfolio, including the cartoner and wrap-around machines, based on the platform.

Decentralized servo drive Rexroth IndraDrive Mi with Multi-Ethernet and Safety

Due to its Multi-Ethernet interface, the further developed decentralized servo drive Rexroth IndraDrive Mi simplifies the implementation of the most different automation structures with a uniform hardware.

In addition the possible direct connection of Ethernet components to the drive reduces the wiring expenditure. The certified drive integrated safety function STO raises the degree of freedom for the modularization in the mechanical engineering.

Efficient energy use

The three aforementioned machines are virtually connected with each other at the show booth. Rexroth will be demonstrating practical solutions for increasing energy efficiency using one operating terminal.
The IndraDrive family’s integrated firmware features display energy consumption right on the operating terminal, giving large-scale users information whenever they need it. Pneumatic leakages can be identified through air consumption measurements.
These approaches for increasing energy efficiency are part of the systematic approach of the Rexroth-4EE concept (Rexroth for Energy Efficiency), which involves four parts: Efficient Components, Energy Recovery, Energy on demand and Energy System Design.
